Description: This is my drawing of a dromedary camel in the desert. An oasis and pyramids are on the horizon. They have fatty deposits known as “humps” on its back. Camels have been domesticated for many centuries. A camel stands in a desert landscape with pyramids and palm trees in the background. Description: This is my acrylic painting of a burrowing owl family. This owl is also called the shoco, which is a small, long-legged owl. They nest and roost in burrows, such as those excavated by prairie dogs. They have bright yellow eyes with prominate white eyebrows and a white chin. They are quite social and lives in groups. The earthy tones of the background create a warm, natural atmosphere.

Description: This is my acrylic painting of some pigeons sitting on The Thinker statue. The Thinker statue represent man’s contemplation and thought. Some days you will be the pigeon, going about your business and living a carefree existence, and other days you will be the statue getting pooped on by the pigeons. A contemplative statue sits on a tree stump surrounded by birds, with bird poop dripping from its surface. The setting includes a clear blue sky, suggesting a cold atmosphere.

Description: This is my acrylic painting of a roseate spoonbill wading the shallow waters of the wetlands. It is known for its red eyes and long spoon-shaped bill. It has a pink color that is diet-derived like the American flamingo. Plume hunting in the 1800’s almost drove it to extinction. Description: This is my acrylic painting of a silky, shiny cedar waxwing perched in a tree. I was inspired to paint these beautiful birds after seeing them in person. Some of their wing feathers have red tips, the resemblance of which to sealing wax gives these birds their name. These birds love fruit. They occasionally become intoxicated or even die when they run across overripe berries that have started to ferment and produce alcohol. Detailed features and vibrant plumage highlight its striking presence in the natural setting.

The dark blue head, red rump, and green back plumage of the male only comes in the second year of life; in the first year they look similar to a female. These shy and secretive birds are in the cardinal family. The rich green background suggests a lush, natural environment, enhancing the bird's vivid colors.

Description: This is my acrylic painting of a green jay in the forest. These birds are found in Central America, Mexico and South Texas. They can use sticks as a tool to pry up loose bark, exposing insect prey. They are excellent mimics like Blue Jays.

Description: This is my acrylic painting of two rufous hummingbirds hoovering to get nectar from some flowers. I used a pearlescent paint for the iridescent shine on the feathers. They have a fast and darting flight with pinpoint maneuverability. These feisty birds will chase away other birds many times its size. Their delicate wings are caught mid-flight, creating a sense of movement and liveliness. This bird painting is included in the bird playing card game called “Chirp Up”.

Description: This is my acrylic painting of a pair of chunky full-breasted house sparrows. The male has the darker colors with a black bib while the female has more buffy brown colors. These are also known as English sparrows and Indian sparrow. These sparrows are very social and are strongly associated with human habitation. These birds are very common at my bird feeders.

Description: This is my acrylic painting of a white-winged dove on a cactus. These doves are often seen on the saguaro cacti in the Sonoran Desert, where they play a vital role in the cactus pollination and seed dispersal. The doves build homes inside the cacti and eat the saguaro fruit. Doves are seen as a sign of peace and love. I was inspired to paint this dove after seeing some on vacation.

Description: This is my acrylic painting of a courting pair of red-headed woodpeckers at a nesting cavity in a tree. They will do a rapid pecking of their bills against a tree to announce their availability. Prospective mates play “hide and seek.” These birds have been featured in many stories and legends. Two red-headed woodpeckers are perched on a tree, facing each other near a hollow. The bark is detailed, and the birds are striking against the soft yellow background.

Description: This is my acrylic painting of a Carolina wren at a bright sunrise. They sing year-round. The males alone sing and have a repertoire of at least twenty different phrase patterns. While singing its tail is pointed down. It is the state bird of South Carolina. A small wren is depicted with a vibrant yellow burst of color in the background, giving an impression of movement or energy. Various shades of brown and white detail the bird's feathers, and the artist’s signature is present in the corner.

Description: This is my mixed media (watercolor, ink and acrylics) painting of some barn swallows at an old barn at a farm. The birds are gazing at the barn as the sunbeams span over the horizon. Their cup nest from mud pellets is in the barn. There are many cultural references to the barn swallow in literary (Bible Proverbs 26:2) and religious works due to it close proximity to humans. A vibrant barn swallow perches on a barbed wire fence as two others soar above in a rustic countryside scene. Sunlight radiates from the horizon, highlighting a barn and windmill in the distance.

They are probably the most romantic bird species and they mate for life, travel together, sing before nesting and during courtship. It is often said about them, when Cardinals appear, Angels are near. Many believe seeing a cardinal is a sign that those who have passed are with us in spirit. Two cardinals perch closely on a branch, creating a scene of harmony. The background features soft streaks of golden sunbeam hues, accentuating the birds' vibrant plumage.

Description: This is my watercolor and ink painting of the popular six colorful, tall and thin beach houses known as the “birdhouses” at Dauphin Island, Alabama. Each of these houses have a covered boat dock on the side facing Bayou Aloe in the Gulf of Mexico. I was very inspired to paint these houses after seeing them while staying on this island. They were originally built for fishermen but today they are summer and vacation homes. The entire island has been designated as a bird sanctuary.

This highly nocturnal owl has a heart-shaped face and is known for its silent gliding, white plumage and sharp talons. They have excellent eyes and phenomenal hearing for hunting. I was inspired to do this painting from all the times I’ve been fishing….waiting for a bite. Two silhouetted persons are fishing from a boat on a serene body of water during a vibrant orange sunset. Description: This is my acrylic painting on black paper as a tribute to the great horned owl. I was very inspired to do this painting as a tribute after finding an injured great horned owl in my garden. The owls piercing yellow eyes seemed to stare right through me. The owl couldn’t fly. Crows were heckling it and vultures circled overhead. I was excited to help Animal Control rescue it and the owl went to an animal hospital. Sadly, the beautiful owl passed away the next day. These owls are also known as the tiger owl or the hoot owl. Some view great horned owls as the returned souls of the brave. They are often seen as a symbol of wisdom, good luck, prosperity and knowledge.

This butterfly is the state butterfly of Delaware, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
