This is my acrylic painting of a vibrant ringed kingfisher perches against a soft sky overlooking the lake. Its detailed feathers contrast with the gentle cloud pattern. This noisy bird can be found in Southeastern Texas at the Rio Grande through Central America and to Tierra del Fuego in South America. They have a white collar and straight bills that are longer than their heads. They are known for their “tomail serrations” that act like teeth to grip slippery fish.
