This is my acrylic painting of the Ohio state bird and flower, which are the cardinal and red carnation. This state chose the red carnation to honor President William McKinley, an Ohioan who liked to wear red carnations stuck in his buttonhole on the lapel of his jacket. Ohio was admitted to the union on March 1, 1803 as the 17th state. This painting is part of my state birds and flowers collection. The background is filled with a subtle pattern of smaller flowers, creating a lush and colorful scene.
