The turkey is to celebrate Thanksgiving. To celebrate Christmas, I have the Christmas goose and the evergreen trees. Description: I was inspired when I saw some California Quail on a vacation trip. I loved watching them run with their head plumes bobbing around. This is my acrylic painting of a pair of California Quail with some chicks. This part of my Toned Tan Paper series. A family of California quails gathers on the ground, with two adult birds and several chicks standing alert. Brown and beige hues dominate the scene, complemented by simple background grass strokes.

In this painting are the West Mitten Butte, East Mitten Butte and Merrick Butte. I included a cowboy with horse on the John Ford point. Salt was used for the special effects on the rocks and mountains. A lone rider on horseback gazes across a vast desert landscape, with towering red rock formations under a sky filled with clouds.
